iPad, iPad 2, wi fi or not

A family member recently received and iPad 2 for his birthday. I was helping him connect to the wifi at home and was unable to do so unless I was practically sitting on my router. Then I played the "Can you hear me now" game with the iPad 2 and the wifi signal. I could start with good signal at one point in the room walk away and watch it vanish and then returns to the original spot and not get signal anymore.
Now I read that the antenna in the iPad (and the iPad 2) is not the strongest, I understand size limitations and all, but are any of the other tablets similar in problems to this?
