2009 What / which is better Plasma or LED high definition flat screens?
How do you decide between Plasmas or LED lit LCDs? LEDs are new to the market for 2009, they have improved contrast ratios and now have darker black levels, but not as dark as plasmas. Plasmas also have a better color saturation than LEDs. Plasmas also outperform LEDs during fast moving scenes as they have a 600 Hz subfield drive compared to the 120 or 240 Hz of LEDs. LEDs can be viewed in direct sunlight whereas plasmas perform the best in low light. If you are viewing indoors, Plasmas are better. On the other hand, LEDs are brighter and do not have picture degradation in sunlight. So if your flatscreen is outdoors or in a light filled room a LED would be your best choice.
Panasonic makes the best plasmas since Pioneer discontinued its plasma division. Panasonic now owns Pioneer's plasma patents. Sony and Samsung make the best LEDs, but LG and Toshinba also manufacture LEDs at a more affordable price.
